Scott Wheaton
Senior Principal
Scott Wheaton brings a systems-thinking perspective to architecture and the built environment, shaped by more than three decades of experience working with owners, developers, architects, engineers, and builders. He is particularly interested in how design intent, technical systems, and project delivery come together to create environments that support reliable operations for the organizations they serve. At NAGEL Architects + Engineers, Scott works alongside project teams and clients to help guide ideas into well-coordinated projects that balance design vision with operational reliability and long-term stewardship.
Scott began his engineering career in Milwaukee in 1990 and is a Registered Designer of Engineering – Electrical Systems in the State of Wisconsin, a credential he has held since 2004. Over the course of his career he has contributed to projects across the United States and internationally, working with owners, developers, and professional design teams across healthcare, research, higher education, manufacturing, mission-critical, and civic environments. His work often focuses on helping organizations navigate complex capital investments, infrastructure decisions, and the coordination required to bring ambitious projects to completion.
He studied architecture and electrical engineering at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee and business administration at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. While his work has taken him across the country and abroad, Scott remains deeply connected to the Midwest design community and the landscapes that shape how people experience place. Outside of the studio, he enjoys hiking Wisconsin’s state parks and reflecting on how natural environments influence the way communities and built spaces come together.
